- 3D Printer Model: Creality CR10 Smart (non-pro)
- Slicer: Cura
- Hardware Setup:Current firmware is Marlin. Wanting to switch to Klipper
- Problem description: No idea what I’m doing (being honest)
- What I tried: Bare with me, this is long. I’ve installed Linux Mint XFCE on an 3 year old laptop. I’ve installed Klipper (I think). I’ve researched how to flash klipper to the printer. I’ve input the recommended settings into the make command (to make the .bin file) I copied that file to the SD card and tried to flash the printer. When I powered on the printer, my screen came on and stayed at the marlin logo (I have a super custom screen). The LED didn’t come on. I held the power button in for 30 seconds and let go. The printer turned off. I removed the SD card and powered on the printer. It worked like I never touched klipper. Still running marlin, still with my custom screen. I’m new to not only 3d printing, but also to linux and klipper. I made a printer config file by using klipper’s example CR6se 2021 (this is the exact same printer, just smaller). I copied my marlin setting over to the example. I have questions about that as well. Like, marlin shows a pinout for the SD card. Klipper does not. After it flashes, will I be able to use the SD card reader anymore? Marlin has a pinout for the power supply as the 10 smart has the relay board for the power supply. Klipper does not. How will the printer stay on once powered up? I’ve seen some comments on this forum at the bottom that reads “include printer.cfg” or something similar. Am I suppose to be adding that line? Again, I’m extremely new to all of this. Its very frustrating for me to not be able to figure this out. So now I turn to this forum for help. Please help me. Thanks in advance.
UPDATE: I installed cinnamon, reinstalled klipper, found a few examples of printer config files. Made a file, I flashed the firmware on the printer, and it wouldn’t stay on. I jumpered the relay board and hooked the computer to the printer. Alas, it worked. Followed the verification steps in klipper and low and behold, I HAD a working printer. Everything was going great, starting working on the steps for the steppers and Linux said it had an update. Something about parental controls. Last I checked, I’m an adult and don’t need parental controls. After trying to ignore it several times, I finally installed said update. Suddenly, I had no access to anything…“cannot access XXX. File not found.” Maybe if I search parental controls and turn them off. There are no parental controls. Maybe the computer needs to be rebooted. Reboot, enter password…“cannot access cinnamon something something. file not found.” Back to the password screen. You have got to be kidding me. Tried multiple times, no luck. So I reinstalled cinnamon but lost the config file. Now I’m back to square 1. Don’t remember where I got half the information from for the first file. Copy and pasted 1 from here. Ran it. "[stepper_x] not valid in this section. Wait…what? So I’m stuck again. Any suggestions on what occurred, or where I got my info from…lol…is greatly appreciated.
UPDATE to the UPDATE: Well, found out what happened with the computer. How you ask? Because it did it again. Apparently, when I installed cura following a youtube video, it directs to download fuse. After fuse installed, I went back and read what it was doing. At one instance, it said Fuse3 already does this, but since you requested, we’ll proceed, and it deleted all the files the computer needed. So I had to redo the laptop, again, and this time, found an alternative way to install cura. Now I gotta make ANOTHER config file…ugh. Hopefully, I find what I’m looking for. Wish me luck.
That’s not of any help to me at this point, considering I’m past that. But thank you for replying.
The issue with Fuse and system files is a tough lesson, but it’s great that you’ve identified the root cause and found an alternative way to install Cura.
